Today is Chinese New Year – The Year of the Dog.
For billions of Chinese people around the world the main traditions includes having dinner with their family, giving red envelopes filled with money, setting off firecrackers, buying new clothes and filling the house with red decorations. Red is the main colour for the festival as red is believed to be an auspicious colour.
In London thousands of people will be celebrating in China Town, Trafalgar Square and the West End this Sunday. There will be colourful parades and lots of fireworks and food.
Whenever possible, I believe that it is always nice to join in celebrations of other nationalities as it gives me an opportunity to experience another culture.
