On your marks...

Updated: Apr 6, 2018

The World Championships Athletics are taking place in London and I have tried to watch a lot of the events. My son and I are sad to see Usain Bolt and Mo, sorry, Sir Mo Farah retire. They have both been good role models and have shown that with hard work and perserverance you can achieve anything.

What I do like about athletics is that you can take a shy girl or boy, get them to take up an event and they will, in time, shine. They are able to socialise with those of their age, they are getting exercise and most importantly, in this computer age world, they are outside.

I remember doing athletics at school and coming 3rd in sprints. For some reason I could never catch the other two. In the shot put I did well and represented my school in the country championships but didn't excel. The other girls who beat me were a lot bigger and stronger and unless i dedicated a lot of time into the event, I wouldn't beat them. Although, I got beaten, a lot, I still enjoy athletics and admire and respect the dedication the athletes put in, even if they don't win.

The quote that comes to mind with a lot of things that I do is: Winners never quit and quitters never win. I try not to quit too many things.
